The mission of Rutgers Accounting Society (RAS) is to empower students to rise above the crowd by exploring the diverse breadth of the accounting profession. Beyond traditional paths, we cultivate emerging leaders by providing hands-on community service through tax preparation initiatives like VITA, fostering holistic professional development, and building a versatile network that connects members to public, private, and government sectors.
By fulfilling the requirements of being an active general member, students gain access to: - Diverse Career Exposure: Access to professionals in public accounting (Big 4), government (FBI), financial regulation (NFA), and real estate (EisnerAmper) to help explore passions beyond the "traditional" path. - Hands-on Experience: The opportunity to participate in the VITA partnership with the Ironbound Community Corporation by providing free tax preparation to low-income and elderly residents. - Skill Certification & Development: Participation in workshops for LinkedIn branding, elevator pitches, and technical sessions like "CPA 101" to build technical and soft skills. - The Point System Rewards: A structured "Membership Point System" that logs engagement. This provides a tangible record of involvement that can be used to distinguish yourself to recruiters. - Leadership Pipeline: Eligibility to join the RAS Committee to assist the Executive Board on ad-hoc projects and eventually run for officer positions.
